Woke up checked the protest
Which one huh
Feels like it’s every day of my adult life
Before me we were taught minimally
About nam
The fight for civil rights
Women and minorities
Through time
But it’s been every day since
Violence
Like it’s normalized
To dehumanize
Epstein files like it’s just paper
And every news channel uses police language about the protesters
Like it’s misplaced anger
To be enraged at the hate
Following the only things they let us do
And still they just change the rules
Break them with impunity
Let insurrectionists free
You gotta tune it out or burn it down
Your empathy can kill you now
Cuz every day people are dying in states
That wave flags of the land of the free
When will we admit this country
Is like a failed experiment
Late stage capitalism and white supremacy
Patriarchy and pedophiles
Maybe most of humanity
Fallen to greed fallen to distraction
The brainwashed soldiers they always wanted
Too stupid to know or too beaten down to try
Let me know when we’re gonna start setting the fires
I guess I’ll see it online
Barely an adult I went to the march for my rights
Stretched across the capital in the middle of the crowd it feels like
Maybe we can take it all back
But they would never let us do that
The following years over and over the tears growing new division new murder every week I swear it’s been unending and now I’m watching the millionth detention center demonstration just another example of militarized police while the people try to help prisoners get food and water and humane treatment
In their cages
After we just spent years subjected to watching politicians kiss the feet of the country that was genociding an entire population blatantly
Hours of footage of watching kids bleed and parents scream
I’ve felt the chill at seeing Holocaust death camps only on a screen
And I don’t blame a whole people for the ones that are extreme
Survived atrocity
But some of us turn into the monsters that twisted us
How can that be
And all the evangelists propping up
Their death cult team
Pick it apart sure, draw lines and exemptions see the trauma and the rhetoric
But can you hand me a tool
To pull the rot out and start anew
We’ve been festering my whole life
Has it been all of time
Are there places where it isn’t like this
Cuz I know they had the intention
To end up here and further down
For so long now
And every various state of decay place that resembles us anyhow
I hear there’s good
I see it in pockets
In the eyes of those still fighting
You know they’re just waiting for us to get quiet
Every time
Let me know when we’re starting the fire
