Have you ever met someone
That had a gift of making others feel safe
All at once so high above
And yet still a soft place
Sharp wit but holding space
Reassurances like breathing
Balancing tipping plates
Pulling from empty with no request of receiving
So how could you ever wish for a break
Of their own safe harbor, person, home
I do not yearn for earthquakes
Or heartbreaks
No longer wish to only take
You cannot possess a person, a force that nature made
The elements themselves rose up
To meet the very dust
Of sparkling celestial bodies
That would one day make you up
And my pen stills at the thought of
Trying to find words that won’t do justice
I think to write how I feel about you would only take away from
The existence of an entire person
That I will never perceive
I am reminded of ancient men filling scrolls
With words to call to war
Over beauty and other cursory attributes
How did they feel writing of Helen
Of blood spilled
I can see why ships were launched
Every time you really laugh
But in me still
Is the reluctance to shrink someone so alive
To fit onto pages of dead trees
Into only what I feel or see
So I avert my gaze when you let down your hair
There are no towers here
Just inside thoughts and silly dreams
The gift of glimpses into being
Alive in your world, existing in a shared tattered timeline simply twisting into stolen moments of knowing just a bit just the fringes of a life already built of a space just shaped for a toehold still meaningful in whatever meaning it is given and I will give it all of it for these minutes cuz every molecule of light filled souls is a connection my atoms will carry after they break apart as I have never found a better purpose for existence or more enjoyment than in witnessing the many evolutions of stardust and once single cell beings turned to thinking and breathing creatures touching energy timidly or purposefully and some..
Some you would go to war for, but not for things like their undeniable beauty,
But because they would never want that
And you couldn’t imagine doing that to them
To ever try to wreck, to possess
Who would’ve left even the scholars speechless
