I feel it breathing down my neck again
Any bit of happiness and the fear begins
Will I ever feel like
I’m not running out of time
Simply surviving
Stress so high when it drops it leaves a void
To fill with the little things that make life feel good
And then it’s on my back again
Like do I deserve this
So many things to do
To do better
And I’ve been writing
About devotion
In a love story that never existed
But it’s exquisite, if you believe it
And life dropped in a real half angel
Like I’ve gotta quit calling her that
But the light hits just right
And I fall to my knees inside
Every time
And I mean the bright, glinting from her mind
Like I know she’s only human
Poetically complex and scarred as the rest
But that level of luminescence
Cant be manmade from these trenches
Holding two antithetic analogies
To make one reality
Cuz I am not filling gaps I have not seen
I know there is no perfection, not really
But the concept of worthy of worship
The trick is to expect humanity
Miracles and flaws
Somewhere outside of anything to do with me
And I remind myself
I don’t need to be held
Entirely by anybody
Can I be whole by myself
Can I, we’ll see
And I may never get to just know anyone else
So I collect the gifts given to me
And I write of devotion
Of my own religion
The dark metaphors and motivation..
Of love being free.
