Pervading innocence

Some nights in my head it plays out
Like ‘i could just come cuddle on the couch’
And idk if it’s the weather
Or if it’s whether I could ever
Separate it now
So I let it grow cold like the night
And tell myself I might
Someday have a grip
Without a grippy sock vaca
And get to hear it in a normal way
Whatever that means
And it quiets the blood loudly seeping
Like the world slowly falling asleep and
I’m still here standing thinking
Trying to find the lines around even what I’m dreaming
It’s all unmet needs and new discoveries
Like the fossils of who I was supposed to be
With no eraser no chaser
Take the shot and let it burn
Or keep the light and learn
To find fuel in the way you yearn
And peace in
any of the pieces you have left
Cuz one day that air will be too sharp
It’ll be the last time you ventured
Out into the dark
So maybe it’s all criss crossed
And I live in the fear of tearing off
Too much too little
all the rules
and perceptions I am tossed
About in like a cannonball
Breaking walls
But maybe
I have some days of this crazy
Point of life left
If I can chill maybe I’ll hear it for real
And learn about the other ways
And fit it into every place
It fills gently
For me
Or at least I can dream
But lately waking is like walking
Into something my mind created
To save me
So many years ago
And I know
It doesn’t matter what you call it
What does or doesn’t show
It’s in with the only true bliss
We ever know
