I think all my life
I’ve been waiting
To be fascinated
And always fallen short
By leaps and bounds
Not that I’m better
Just wired different
And I both held inside but let go
All the beauty I’ve found
The epitome of chasing potential
And faces on screens that have realized their own
In ways that make me wanna level up
Just to be enough
To experience
The flow set to constant
That’s my idea of euphoria
So how could I write like anything is the same
How could I ask old questions about the situation that coat it all in the mundane
And to speak at all would grandize my mind when really I just felt alien
And yet always found the love
Cuz there are pieces of heaven in everyone
Sparks, lightning, floundering, denial
And maybe we’ll get there
If given a while
But it’s the current that changes
That keeps me above the waterline
And now only cliches come close enough to describe
Am I the crazy one
Well definitely
But every syllable falls into this place
That I was trying to learn to leave half empty
For eternity
With the exception of a miracle
To fill it
Only with me
And heal from chasing fairytales
But now they just have a different shape
And it’s rewritten every day
With every single thing she will say
I’m locked in like a sailor
Born away from the sea
So far that the water
Is only a dream
And everyone says maybe
You’re crazy
Be grateful for the sand
And I am
I have always been
But to step for the first time
Onto a coastline
Like it had been waiting all of this time
Not to conquer the waves
Or grow any gills
Just to smell the salt air
Feel the rocking that never stills
Like maybe I wasn’t
Meant to rule the tides
Only to be where I hear them crashing at night
Like a lullaby
From a different life
Every day
The vast unknown
Day trips and voyages
And only a nearby home
Maybe I was never a sailor
But ocean adjacent is still home
